From deep in the southern jungles come the pacamen, a mysterious race of humanoids.  As one would expect of a humanoid race with a large heads, tusks, and long trunk-like noses, the pacamen are referred to as Elephant Men.  They take this relation very seriously and consider the elephants to be their ancestors.  Their pride in this relationship could easily cause problems if anyone were to insult elephants in their presence.

The pacamen live their lives as hunters, and typically do not establish cities or permanent towns.  They will visit human civilizations and trade for the things their nomadic life-style cannot produce.  Their superior strength and durability tied to their hunting experience makes them sought after bodyguards and soldiers.  Though they may visit, they seldom stay among others for more than a year or two.  It is believed they are wanderers by nature as well as choice.

Pacamen believe themselves to be the game wardens of the entire world.  They prefer to hunt predatory animals and have been known to react violently to anything they might consider to be “poaching”.  Anyone killing elephants (or a related animal) for the ivory will be hunted by these determined elitists.

In combat, the pacamen have the ability to use weapons, though they must use weapons sized for their large, clumsy hands.  They can also gore with their short, pointy tusks.  Many of their number are skilled hunters and trackers, while others are truer to the warrior’s path.  Pacamen are high valued as gladiators, though they must be enslaved early in life.  Adult pacamen have been known to choose to die rather than be forced to kill against their will.

Pacaman societies are typically very wealthy.  Their hunting of predatory animals gives them access to valuable furs and animal products.  Rumors often say that they know the whereabouts of several ancient gem mines, or even the Elephants’ Graveyard.  Greed for this knowledge has caused many pacamen to be captured and tortured to death in hopes of revealing the knowledge.  So far none have told, but whether this is due to their mental strength or a lack of knowledge is unknown.

Pacaman society is very odd to most humans, though not entirely different from the Turgor culture.  They have the ability to use their trunks as another limb, but it is considered impolite for them to do so.  They all have tusks, with children starting to grow them in their third year.  An adult male’s tusks could grow to 18” (about 6-8 pounds).  These tusks are solid ivory, another reason the pacamen are hunted.

(singular is “pacaman” even for females)
