The Fletnern calendar starts on Braday (the first day of the week) every year.  This means that since there are 10-day weeks and 417 days in the year, then the last week of the year is only 7 days instead of 10.  This short week is then The Feast of Brakin.

Officially, the first day of the year is actually the Feast of Brakin, and this day is used as a religious holiday.  The previous seven days are far more of a secular celebration but are typically also called the Feast of Brakin.  Perhaps the best way to give a similar situation is if the week between Christmas and New Year’s was reversed.  The official religious holiday ends the holiday period and the days leading up to it are filled with parties.

Children born on the Feast of Brakin are considered especially blessed.  Gifts are exchanged, and families gather for meals.  Gifts usually consist of blankets, furs and other items for items to prepare for winter.  Most businesses are closed this last partial week of the year so that people can travel to see loved ones for the Feast.
