Dalavar is a port, but it is mainly a desert city built along a river.  The culture is that of a desert people (similar to the Arabian Nights stories), and the weather is as hot and dry as one would expect in a desert.  What agriculture there is is wedged into small fertile areas, typically along the river, the coastline or the nearby mountains.  Travel outside of the general area is by ship, as the deserts are simply too large to be crossed by camels.  Dalavar is also the crown jewel of the world’s slave trade.
