Caesilleau is considered the capital of the aldar civilization. Hidden deep underground, it is one huge marketplace, the dominant place of commerce in the Tunnel World. A cesspool of crime and greed, Caesilleau is likely the most dangerous city in the world. With tunnel roads heading almost everywhere in the world, Caesilleau is more than a crossroads, it is the destination.
But Caesilleau is considered the “new” capital. It came into prominence over the last 200 years. Before that the capital was considered Commerce City. Caesilleau is the headquarters of the Etiquette Committee, and here the Etiquette Committee holds power. (This is somewhat of a chicken and the egg issue; no one can really say if the Etiquette Committee brought power to Caesilleau or the other way around.) Away from Caesilleau their power ebbs.
Caesilleau is the largest of aldar cities. This city boasts some 550,000 aldar and an additional 100,000 non-aldar, mostly slaves. Life in Caesilleau is difficult for everyone. About 80% of the population lives in slums rules by gangs. The most popular activities of these gangs involve raiding each other’s ghettos for food and supplies. The other 20% live in the lap of luxury, but they too have it hard. The various cartels all maintain bases in Caesilleau, and assassination and betrayal are common tools of trade relations.
There are no direct ways to go from the surface to Caesilleau. To travel to the Sun World from the capital, one must travel through the extensive tunnel roads and then find a path to the surface. This is considered a safety measure for the aldar, but it also allows the elves of Slyvania some manner of deniability. They can claim that there are no aldar strongholds on the surface, but there are several towns that the aldar control through corrupt elven nobles that do allow for passage. The passage from Nanerette to Caesilleau has been one of the busiest within the last 10-15 years. With its location roughly between Brinston and Slyvania, Caesilleau deals with almost every aldar city and most of the human cities as well.
