The Barony of Forsbury has the largest standing army in the Council of Baronies at 300 men.  These are full time soldiers and in some cases policing units.

To many this number will seem incredibly small, especially when compared to some of the city-states, but this is not the full impact of the Forsbury military machines.  In addition to these full time soldiers, the Baron employs a large number of cowboys who manage his massive cattle herds.  All of these men are also trained in various military arts and can be called on to function as light cavalry.

Additionally, the smaller towns in the barony employ sheriffs and deputies as peace keepers, and these troops can also be called on, though they are more likely to form the backbone of a militia left in the barony when the army is away.  Further, Forsbury is famous for its caravans and its caravaneers.  Most of these civilians have some degree of training with weapons as a part of their jobs moving cargo across the great distances.  While these people are not official in any capacity, should the barony actually come under attack, they should be counted on to assist in the defense of their homes - but only if they happen to be home at the time.

Under Baron Edward Forsbury, the army has solidified into its current formation.  There are four Watches, each led by a Sergeant.  These Sergeants report to the Captain who reports directly to the Baron.  Each Watch numbers 75 soldiers for the total of 300.  Within each Watch are five Corporals, each leading 15 men.  The squads reporting to the Corporals are not stable, and soldiers transfer back and forth with some regularity.

Within the Day Watch and the Night Watch, one squad of 15 is designated as the Gate Guards.  These elite teams are the showpiece of the army.  These soldiers have impressive uniforms and are trained in the arts of diplomacy.  They greet visitors to the castle and often escort visiting nobles around the city.  Not an elite fighting force, they are disciplined soldiers with a polite and regal manner.  Unlike the other soldiers, they are most commonly equipped with halberds.

While the four Watches will often compete with one another, many of the soldiers have served in more than one Watch.  For this reason, there is camaraderie amongst the units, and the rivalries are always friendly.
